Privacy Policy — Kotoba Keepers

Last updated: 6 October 2026

Kotoba Keepers ("the app") is made by Ayano Nakagawa ("we"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, and your choices.

Summary

Your game progress

Your save (spirits, items, story progress, settings) and your review history (which items you answered, whether you were right, and when — needed for spaced repetition) are stored only on your device. We never receive them. They are part of your device's normal backup (iCloud or computer backup, if you have it turned on), which Apple manages under its own privacy policy. Deleting the app deletes the save from the device.

Purchases

The Full Journey unlock is a one-time in-app purchase made through Apple; we never see your payment details. To check that a purchase is valid and to restore it on a new device ("Restore purchases"), the app sends the App Store receipt to RevenueCat, our purchase-validation provider. RevenueCat links the purchase to a random, anonymous id it creates on the device — not to your name, email or Apple ID — and keeps the purchase history so restores work. See RevenueCat's privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

Anonymous stats

To learn which parts of the game players finish, where they stop, and how many buy the Full Journey, the app counts a few events anonymously with Aptabase (aptabase.com), a privacy-first analytics service:

Each event also carries what the analytics library adds itself: the time, a random session number made when the app starts (not stored, not tied to your device), the app's and iOS's version, and a fixed language code. There is no user id, no device id, no advertising id, no name, nothing you type and none of your answers, and nothing is used for tracking or advertising or combined with other data. Aptabase derives an approximate location — the country and region (such as a state or prefecture), never a city or an address — from the connection's IP address and keeps that with the event; it doesn't store the IP address itself, which it only uses to make an anonymous hash that changes every day. See Aptabase's privacy policy: https://aptabase.com/legal/privacy

To opt out: Start menu → Settings → More settings → "Share anonymous stats" → off. Nothing is sent after that. The choice is saved on your device.

Purchases and these stats are the only times the app connects to the internet (the credits links open in your browser when you tap them).

What we don't collect

Names, email addresses, accounts, precise location, contacts, photos, advertising ids, device ids, crash reports, what you type, your answers, or any other data beyond the anonymous stats above.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. There is no chat or user-generated content.

Your rights

Because we don't hold any data that identifies you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete (the anonymous stats can't be traced back to you). For the purchase record, contact RevenueCat or us at kotobakeepers.support@gmail.com.

Changes

If a future version adds optional features that send data (for example cloud save), we'll update this page and the App Store privacy details before that version is released, and note the date above.
